

Over the next 60 years, Tony became a leader in his field. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry and Management, Tony returned to the Metropolitan area in 1960 and embarked on a career in the textile industry. Following graduation, Tony enrolled in Wilson College of Textiles at North Carolina State University, considered one of the most competitive textile schools in the country. He attended Blair Academy School where he excelled in academics and athletics – winning the Franklin Prize for academic achievement, becoming captain of his wrestling team and a two-time state wrestling champion, and leading his football team to an undefeated season in 1954. Tony was born in Paterson, NJ on to loving parents, Anthony and Catherine Maltese, and grew up in Bergen County, NJ.

Where others saw problems, Tony saw potential. As a philanthropist, he devoted his resources to helping at-risk young people overcome obstacles, pursue their dreams and achieve. During his 60 years as a businessman, he survived some of the most volatile and demanding years within the American textile industry. Perseverance and compassion have been central themes in life of Tony Maltese. Tony was pre-deceased by his beloved son, Anthony Maltese III his sister Kathleen Bauer and his dog, Blue.

Tony is survived by the love of his life since grade school and wife of nearly 57 years, Cynthia daughter Kim Maltese daughter Kristen Maltese-Krusen and son-in law Charles daughter-in-law Christine Maltese grandchildren Alexandra Brandfon, Victoria Gross, Elizabeth Leonard, Christopher Bell, Jr., Lion Krusen, Blakeslee Krusen, and Ashlyn Maltese four great-grandchildren sister Geraldine Redling and her husband John brother-in law, Roger Bauer and many nieces and nephews. Maltese, Jr., of Saddle River, NJ passed away on January 17, 2021.
